Epic Mandate "Love God, Love Others"
"'Love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the
first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love
your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on
these two commandments."
Matt. 22:36 - 40
Why "Epic"?
What is the name of our
church?
EPIC Faith, Inc. is our new legal name,
but we will refer to our church as Epic or Epic Faith. Epic, which
means larger-than-life, grand, or heroic, describes a faith that is
bigger than our human ability to define it. We are a part of a very
big story. "The Story of all stories" - as Pastor Jack told us. And
our stories all fit within The Story.
Why are we changing the
name of our church? If
you've been around for a while, you have noticed that we have
changed. If you are new to the church, you will notice that we are a
bit different than most - not better, just different.
Just like God
changed Abram's name to Abraham, Sari's name to Sarah and Jacob's
name to Israel - to reflect the new people they had become. As
leaders we feel that God has changed us as a people, and with that
change came a new name.
Who selected this name?
A meeting was conducted by elder
Wes Ike, which included the elders and about 25 people who had been
selected from various generations and demographics. We participated
in a think-tank which led us to generate a huge list of names, and
then through a process of elimination, we built a top-10 list. We
left that day with a great feeling of joy and excitement, and
continued to pray about the final decision. We feel that the Lord
has put His finger on EPIC which seemed to best describe our faith
journey.
Why change the name now?
Our move to this property marked
a milestone in the transition that began in us over 3 years ago. We
are in a "new place" - physically, emotionally and spiritually. And
we are a new people. We have seen the Lord do great things over the
18 years of Calvary Christian Fellowship. We are proud of our past,
but we are truly enjoying our present and greatly anticipating our
future. Our world is different today, and we desire to minister to
the world we live in, not in the world we used to live in.

of all pure. It

And those who are peacemakers will plant
seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness."

refreshed together with you."
